Campaign - Cruise Control Malfunction

Group
1

Number
9202

Model
1992 968

Campaign Code
N02

April 30, 1992

Subject:
Rear Engine Compartment Cover Modification

This is to notify you of a voluntary Recall Campaign which involves 1992 Porsche 968 vehicles.

It has been determined that when the cruise control is activated, the safety clip for the cruise control cable on the servo motor arm can bind, due to insufficient clearance from the rear engine compartment cover.

If the cruise control cable binds, the engine will not return to idle when the cruise control function is disengaged, resulting in the vehicle speed not being reduced as expected.

A total of 854 cars fall within the scope of this recall. All potentially have the defect and will be recalled to have a bolt and washer installed on the cruise control servo motor. This modification provides the necessary clearance between the safety clip and engine cover.

The VIN ranges of the affected vehicles in this recall are:

WPOAA2968NS820066 to WPOAA296ONS820384
WPOCA2962NS840063 to WPOCA296ONS840644

Customer Notification

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. will notify all known owners of vehicles within the recall VIN ranges directly by first class mail during the week of May 18, 1992. See enclosed copy of the recall Notification Card to the consumers. A listing of all vehicles with owners' names and addresses in your area, within the recall VIN ranges, will be sent to you shortly.

If a vehicle within the recall VIN ranges is in your dealership for service/repair or in dealer inventory, the Recall Campaign should be performed without delay.

If the vehicle has been retailed or dealer traded, the dealer is to make the necessary arrangements to have the customer or receiving dealer contacted and the Recall Campaign performed.
