Subject: Turbo Control Unit (Service Action 291)


ATTENTION: Service Manager/Service Technician

This is to notify you of a Service Action for 1991/92 Model 911 turbo Porsches. It has been determined by Porsche AG that the turbo control unit may be equipped with defective software. The vehicles do not start at temperatures below 32~ Fahrenheit.

The turbo control unit must be checked and, if necessary, replaced on vehicles affected by this service action:

Model 1991: WPOAA296 - MS480504 to WPOAA296 - MS480673

Model 1992: WPOAA296 - NS480061 to WPOAA296 - NS480290


Customer Notification

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. will notify all known owners directly by first class mail during the week of December 26, 1991, as per the attached copy of the Customer Notification letter.

For those vehicles in dealer inventory, or for those for which we do not have sales information, the notification will be addressed to the dealer. If the vehicle is in dealer inventory, the service action involving the turbo control unit should be performed without delay.

In addition, to minimize the inconvenience to Porsche Owners with vehicles involved in this Service Action, you are authorized to provide a rental car for one day. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. will reimburse you up to $30.00 for the one day car rental or an additional $30.00 to dispatch a technician to the owner's residence or business location.

If the vehicle has been retailed or dealer traded, the dealer is to make the necessary arrangements to have the customer or receiving dealer contacted and the service action performed.

Parts Requirements

The first shipments of parts required to perform the Service Action will be shipped to your dealership during the week of December 26, 1991.
