Subject: Aluminum Air Guide on Engine Protection Plate


ATTENTION: Service Manager/Service Technician

Models Affected: 911 Carrera 2 and Carrera 4





Concern: Aluminum air guide plate cracked and/or rivets loose (arrow in Figure 1).

Vehicle Information: From Model Year 1992 (N), the aluminum air guide plate is attached to the engine protection plate with steel rivets and large washers (formerly aluminum rivets).





Repair Information: A repair kit is available to replace cracked or loose aluminum plates on Carrera 2/4's prior to model year 1992 (N) (Figure 2). It is no longer necessary to replace the complete engine protection plate.

Warranty Information: Install new air guide plate 40 TU (Does not include R & R engine protection)

Labor operation: 10 80 19 OA

Tools Required: Electric drill 5 mm drill bit Vernier calipers 10 mm socket and ratchet Rivet pliers

Work Procedure: 1. Lift vehicle on hoist and remove engine protection plate.

2. Remove loose or damaged aluminum air guide plate. If necessary, drill out rivets.

3. Clean contact area of engine protection plate and aluminum air guide.





4. Align aluminum air guide plate with protection plate and install a 6 mm bolt with nut in location A1. Install rivet with washer (Figure 3) in location A2. Refer to Figure 4 for location identification.

5. Drill air guide according to existing holes in engine protection plate.





Note: Early version engine protection plates have 6 rivet holes and new version engine protection plates have 10 rivet holes. When installing new aluminum air guide plate on early version protection plate, additional holes must be drilled in locations "C" (Figure 4).

6. If necessary, mark additional rivet holes referring to dimensions for locations "C" on the engine protection plate in Figure 4.

7. Drill 5 mm holes in marked locations and deburr. Install rivets with washers.

8. Remove 6 mm bolt and nut from location A1 and reinstall engine protection plate.


Explanation of drilling locations "A1/A2" - existing on engine protection plate and on air guide. "B" - existing on engine protection plate must be drilled on air guide. "C" - existing only on new version engine protection plate. Must be drilled on air guide and on old version engine protection plate.
