Work Procedure "A"
Recall M02This work procedure is for inspecting and re-routing of the fuel hose.
1. Raise the vehicle with the lift.
2. Inspect the fuel hose in the area as indicated in the picture # 1.
3. If the shown fuel hose is damaged in the area as indicated in picture # 1, due to the rubbing of the bracket on the left rear trailing arm which holds the wire for the left rear brake pad wear sensor, then turn to work procedure "B" now, HOWEVER if the inspection of the fuel hose reveals no damage to the shown fuel hose (slight rubbing marks on the fuel hose are not to be considered damage) then continue with point # 4 in this work procedure "A".
4. Loosen the clamp on the vacuum hose and remove the vacuum hose from the metal pipe protruding from the tunnel. See picture # 2.
5. Cut the tie strap which holds the vacuum hose.
6. Reinstall the vacuum hose as shown in the above Picture # 2, arrow B. The fuel hose must now rest against the sheet metal depression for the left rear seat as shown with arrow A.
7. Fasten the vacuum hose with the clamp onto the metal pipe protruding from the tunnel.
8. Secure the vacuum hose with a new tie strap, Part Number 999 513 010 40 to the torsion bar tube.
9. Check the fuel hose routing as it is shown in the picture # 3.
Ensure that there is a 10 to 15 mm distance between the hollow bolt for the fuel line on the fuel pump and the fuel line as shown in the above picture # 3, arrow A. If need be, reposition the fuel line.
10. Check also the routing of the fuel hose leading from the fuel pump to the engine as shown in picture # 4, arrow C.
This fuel hose must be routed from the fuel pump in a fight upward angle, assuring clearance from the left control arm when the suspension bottoms out fully. If need be, reposition this fuel hose as follows:
- Lower the vehicle with the lift.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Raise the vehicle with the lift.
CAUTION:
Use every precaution when working with fuel to prevent fire and injury; absorb all fuel spillage with a rag.
- Loosen hollow bolt which secures the fuel line to the fuel pump while counter holding the fuel pump.
- Remove the hollow bolt and replace both O-rings, Part Number N 013 818 2; reinstall hollow bolt.
- Align the fuel hose so it routes as described previously and torque the hollow bolt with 20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.) while counter holding the fuel pump.
11. Lower the vehicle with the lift.
12. Reconnect the battery.
13. Start the engine and check/verify that there is no fuel leak; if necessary correct fuel leakage.
14. Reset the time clock and the radio code.
Tools Required:
1 - Phillips screwdriver
2 - 17 mm open end wrenches
1 - 1/8" drive 17 mm socket
1 - 3/8" drive torque wrench (0 - +/- 70 N-m or 50 ft.lbs.)
