For model year 1988, 944S vehicles from VIN 94_JN465225 have self diagnosis with fault memory for certain functions integrated into the DME control unit. Faults are called from the memory with diagnosis tester 9268.

Vehicles produced before the above VIN cannot be checked with tester 9268 since the DME control units do not contain self diagnosis circuitry. Upgrading vehicles produced before the above VIN to obtain diagnostics is not considered a warranty matter.

When using tester 9268, refer to service booklet "Diagnosis DME LH-EZK with tester 9268"
