SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 9

DISABLING PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions.




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center on right/passenger shock tower.

IMPORTANT: With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

5. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
6. Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the underhood fuse center.




7. When disabling the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner perform step 8, if Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) needs disabling then use entire procedure.
8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the left/driver seat belt pretensioner connector (1) located under the driver seat.
9. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner-left connector from vehicle wiring harness connector (1).




10. Remove the right rear sail panel.
11. Remove the CPA from the right/passenger roof rail module connector (2).
12. Disconnect the right roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) from the right roof rail module (3).




13. Remove the right/passenger sound insulator from the instrument panel (I/P) (3).
14. Remove the CPA from the I/P module yellow connector (1).
15. Disconnect the I/P module yellow connector (1) from the vehicle harness yellow connector (2).




16. Remove the left/driver sound insulator from the instrument panel (I/P) (2).
17. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1).
18. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1) from the vehicle harness yellow connector (3).




19. Remove the CPA from the left/driver seat belt pretensioner connector (1) located under the driver seat.
20. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner-left connector from vehicle wiring harness connector (1).




21. Remove the left rear sail panel.
22. Remove the CPA from the left/driver roof rail module connector (2).
23. Disconnect the left root rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) from the left roof rail module (3).

ENABLING PROCEDURE




1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. When enabling the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner proceed to step 3, if the SDM needs enabling then use entire procedure.
3. Connect the seat belt pretensioner-right connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector (1).
4. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector (1).




5. Connect the right roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) to the right roof rail module (3).
6. Install the CPA to the right roof rail module connector (2).
7. Install the right rear sail panel.




8. Connect the I/P module yellow connector (1) to the vehicle harness yellow connector (2).
9. Install the CPA to the I/P module yellow connector (1).
10. Install the right sound insulator to the I/P (3).




11. Connect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (3) to the vehicle harness yellow connector (1).
12. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1).
13. Install the left sound insulator to the I/P (2).




14. Connect the seat belt pretensioner-left connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector (1).
15. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector (1).




16. Connect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) to the left roof rail module (3).
17. Install the CPA to the left roof rail module connector (2).
18. Install the left rear sail panel.




19. Install the SIR Fuse.
20. Close the underhood fuse center cover.
21. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
22. Perform the SIR Diagnostic System Check if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Restraint Systems.
