1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place gearshift lever in Neutral position, then loosen rod clamp bolt, Fig. 3.
3. Remove adjustment hole plug from shift lever cover, Fig. 4, then turn shift rod to the left until a 3/16 inch gauge pin can be inserted into adjustment hole in intermediate shift lever.
4. Remove shift boot from console, then unfasten console and lift upward to gain access to shift control lever mechanism.
5. Move gearshift lever to 1st/2nd gear position while still in Neutral.
6. Ensure lever is against stop and arrow is aligned with notch, Fig. 5, then torque rod clamp bolt to 10 ft. lbs. plus an additional 90-180°.
7. Measure clearance between catch ``A,'' Fig. 6, and stop ``B'' with lever in neutral position. Clearance should measure .12 inch.
8. Remove gauge pin and install plug.
9. Adjust dimension ``C,'' Fig. 6, to .449-.465 inch by turning adjusting nut ``D'' as necessary. Bend back two locking tabs at nut prior to adjustment.
10. Install boot then the console assembly.
11. Reconnect battery ground cable.
