1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system and crankcase.
3. Remove oil cooler and adapter.
4. Remove water pump as described under WATER PUMP.
5. Disconnect radiator inlet hose from intake manifold.
6. Remove front clamp from coolant by-pass hose.
7. Remove serpentine drive belt.
8. Remove intercooler duct.
9. Remove crankshaft hub pulley bolts, then remove pulley and hub as an assembly.
10. Remove crankshaft damper bolt and washer, then remove crankshaft damper.
11. Disconnect crankshaft speed sensor electrical connector.
12. Remove oil pan to front cover and oil pan to engine block attaching bolts.
13. Remove crankshaft speed sensor.
14. Remove front cover and gasket, Fig. 5.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Remove the oil pump cover and pack the space around the oil pump gears completely full of petroleum jelly. There must be no air space left inside the pump.
b. Reinstall the cover using a new gasket. This step is very important as the oil pump may lose its prime whenever the pump, pump cover or timing chain cover is disturbed. If the pump is not packed it may not begin to pump oil as soon as the engine is started.
c. Prior to installation, apply suitable sealer to threads of front cover to engine block attaching bolts.
