Fig. 11 Oil Pump Relief Valve Installation:
1. Remove front cover as described under FRONT COVER.
2. Remove screws retaining oil pump cover to front cover. Remove cover and slide out pump gears. Replace any parts not serviceable.
3. Check relief valve in its bore in cover, Fig. 11. Valve should have no more clearance than an easy slip fit. If any perceptible side shake can be felt, the valve and/or cover should be replaced.
4. The filter bypass valve should be flat and free of nicks and scratches.
5. Pack gear pocket with petroleum jelly.
6. Reinstall gears so petroleum jelly is forced into every cavity of gear pocket and between teeth of gears. Unless pump is properly packed, it may not prime when engine is started.
7. Install cover, then tighten screws alternately and evenly.
8. Install front cover.
9. Prior to operating vehicle, prime turbocharger, refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/PRIMING TURBOCHARGER WITH ENGINE OIL for procedure.
