Valve Guide Seal: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECTTools required:
^ J 22794 Air line adapter.
^ J 5892-B or J 26513-A Valve spring compressor.
^ J 23738-A Valve stem seal tester.
1. Valve cover.
2. Spark plug.
CAUTION Do not remove when hot. Clean spark plug recess area before removal.
3. Rocker arm.
4. Pushrods - intake and exhaust push rods are different lengths;
- intake pushrods are marked orange.
- exhaust pushrods are marked blue.
5. Install air line adapter J 22794 to spark plug port and apply compressed air to hold the valves in place.
6. Compress the valve spring. (J 5892-B or J 2651 3-A).
Disassemble
^ Valve locks.
^ Valve cap.
^ Valve spring.
7. Valve stem oil seal.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Valve stem oil seal.
^ Use plastic sleeve provided.
^ Press over valve guide boss.
Assemble
^ Spring seat.
^ Valve spring.
^ Valve cap.
2. Compress the valve spring. (J 5892-B or J 26513-A)
3. Valve locks.
^ If necessary, hold valve locks in place with grease.
4. Release valve spring.
Inspect
^ Make sure valve locks are seated.
^ Apply vacuum to the valve cap to make sure no air leaks past the seal. (J 23738-A)
5. Spark plug.
Tighten
^ Spark plug to 24 Nm (18 lb. ft).
6. Pushrod (install correct length pushrod).
^ Intake pushrods are marked orange.
^ Exhaust pushrods are marked blue.
^ Make sure pushrod seats in lifter.
7. Rocker arm.
8. Valve cover.
