Caliper Removal

Rear Caliper Installed:
- Remove parking brake cable (35) and return spring (11) from parking brake lever (10).
- Loosen cable adjustment if necessary to free parking brake cable (35) from parking brake lever (10).
- Remove parking brake cable (35) from bracket (25).
^ Place a 13 mm box wrench over the cable ferrule tip at the bracket (25).
^ Push the box wrench flush with the surface of the bracket to squeeze the three ferrule tangs together, unlocking the ferrule from the bracket.
^ Pull the cable ferrule out of the bracket hole while holding the box wrench firmly against the bracket to keep the tangs compressed.
- Remove bolt attaching inlet fitting (36), only if caliper is to be removed from vehicle for overhaul.
NOTE: Plug openings in caliper housing (27) and pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove mounting bolts (6) using No. 55 torx wrench. Do not confuse mounting bolts (6) with bridge bolts (24).
- Remove caliper housing (27) from mounting bracket (37) and rotor.
Suspending Rear Caliper:
NOTE: If caliper overhaul or replacement is not required, hang the caliper with a wire hook from the suspension to avoid stretching or damaging the brake hose.
- Remove sleeves (8) and sleeve boots (7).
Rear Caliper Assembly:
- Inspect mounting bolts (6) and sleeves (8) for corrosion. If corrosion is found, use new parts, including sleeve boots (7), when installing caliper housing (27). Do not attempt to polish away corrosion.
- Inspect sleeve boots (7) for cuts, nicks or deterioration.
