Defects & Vehicles Involved, Owner, Dealer & Parts Information
DEFECT INVOLVEDGeneral Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix model vehicles. The front shoulder belt guide loop, attached to the upper rear corner of the door, may interfere with the garnish molding on some vehicles. This interference could limit the rotation of the guide loop. If a vehicle with this condition were involved in a vehicle crash, it could be possible, under certain conditions, for the shoulder belt webbing to be cut by the guide. Loss of the shoulder belt function during a vehicle crash could increase the risk of injuries to occupants.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, a newly designed guide loop nut and spacer will be installed on all involved vehicles to eliminate the potential interference condition.
