Subject: DISC BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE PROCEDURE ADAPTER TOOL J37160

Models

Affected: 1988 GRAND PRIX

The 1988 Grand Prix series use a two piece composite brake rotor on both the front and rear of the vehicle.. The rotor face is iron while the center hub "Hat" portion is steel. The composite brake rotor design is lighter weight and provides better heat protection for the bearing than conventional one piece rotors.

The servicing of the composite rotor is the same as a one piece rotor, however, to improve finishing dimensions of the rotor and to prevent the possibility of the center "hub" flexing when turning on a brake lathe, it requires the use of an adapter tool, J37160. This tool is an essential tool for the 1988 Grand Prix and is a part of the 1988 Essential Tool package.
