Brake Pad: Service and Repair


REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

Shoe And Lining Assemblies:







1. Caliper.

Removing Outboard Shoe & Lining:






2. Outboard shoe and lining. Use a screwdriver to disengage buttons on shoe from holes in caliper housing.


Removing Inboard Shoe & Lining:






3. Inboard shoe and lining. From open side of caliper, press in on edge of inboard shoe and tilt outward to release shoe from shoe retainer.
4. Two way valve from end of piston using small screwdriver.


INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Bottom piston into caliper bore. Position 12 inch adjustable pliers over caliper housing and piston surface.

CAUTION: Do not allow pliers to contact actuator screw. Protect piston so as not to damage surface.

2. Lubricated new two-way check valve into end of piston.

Positioning Of Piston And Shoe Retainer:






Installing Inboard Shoe And Lining:






3. Inboard shoe and lining.
a. Make sure shoe retainer is properly positioned.
b. Engage inboard shoe edge in retainer tabs closest to the caliper bridge. Press down and snap shoe tabs at open side of caliper. Back of shoe must lay flat against piston.
c. Button on back of shoe must engage D-shaped notch in piston.
d. Piston will be properly aligned when one of the D-shaped notches is nearest the bridge of the caliper. Turn piston with spanner wrench J 7624 or equivalent, if necessary.
e. Wear sensor should be at leading edge of shoe during forward wheel rotation.

Spring Mounted Outboard Pad:






4. Outboard shoe and lining. Snap shoe retainer spring into slots in outboard caliper housing. Back of shoe must lay flat against caliper.
5. Caliper.
6. Apply approximately 175 lb. force three times to brake pedal to seat linings.
