Valve Cover: Service and Repair
FRONT
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine compartment lid. Do not remove torsion rod retaining bolts.
3. Remove vacuum boost line and tube.
4. Disconnect throttle and downshift cables and remove bracket.
5. Disconnect cruise control cable, if equipped.
6. Remove ground cable.
7. Remove PCV valve from rocker arm cover.
8. Remove oil dipstick tube.
9. Disconnect spark plug wires and remove bracket.
10. Remove engine lift hook.
11. Remove rocker arm cover bolts and the cover. If cover adheres to cylinder head, shear the adhesion by tapping the end of the cover with a rubber mallet. If cover will not release, pry carefully until loose. Do not distort the sealing flange.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cover bolts to 90 inch lbs.
REAR
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove torque reaction rod attaching bolt from cylinder head.
3. Pivot torque reaction rod upward and remove cylinder head bracket attaching bolt from bracket at front of engine.
4. Loosen lower torque reaction rod bracket attaching bolt at front of engine.
5. Remove upper two torque reaction rod bracket attaching bolts from front of engine.
6. Remove torque reaction rod bracket attaching bolts from cylinder head-to-exhaust manifold connection.
7. Disconnect wiring harness between rocker arm cover and lower plenum.
8. Remove rocker arm cover attaching bolts and the cover. If cover adheres to cylinder head, shear the adhesion by tapping the end of the cover with a rubber mallet. If cover will not release, pry carefully until loose. Do not distort the sealing flange.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cover attaching bolts to 90 inch lbs.
