1985-88
1. Disconnect battery cables.
2. Remove engine compartment lid and side panels.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Drain engine oil, then remove front engine mount-to-cradle nuts.
5. Remove flywheel cover, then the starter motor, splash shield and alternator.
6. Lower vehicle, then remove engine strut.
7. Install engine support fixture tool No. J-28467 or equivalent.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Remove engine front support brackets.
10. Remove oil pan attaching bolts and the oil pan.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply RTV sealant as as shown in Figs. 11 and 12.
b. On 1985 models, install 2 bolts in front cover after all other pan attaching bolts have been torqued to 54 inch lbs.
c. Torque all attaching bolts to 90 inch lbs. on 1986 models, or 20 ft. lbs. on 1987-88 models.
MODELS W/BALANCE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
1. Remove engine assembly as described under ``Engine, Replace.''
2. Remove oil pan attaching bolts and the oil pan.
3. Reverse procedure to install.
