ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE (F73) OPTION
To gain product feedback on the above propshaft assembly and to minimize downtime, a propshaft exchange program is now in effect and will continue until further notice. (Probably SOP 1989)

The exchange program will be administered by Saginaw Division and all requests for exchange units will be handled through the Pontiac Technical Assistance Service (TAS).

The following information from Pontiac and Saginaw Divisions thoroughly explains all requirements regarding diagnosis, non-serviceable items, warranty claims, processing procedures and shipping instructions.

If your dealership receives a complaint on an All-Wheel-Drive propshaft assembly, follow the procedure listed below.

Preliminary Inspection

^ Refer to DIAGNOSIS CHART, page 4A-3, Pontiac 6000 STE All-Wheel-Drive Service Manual Supplement.

^ Ensure that all center bearing mount and prop shaft connecting bolts for front and rear joints are tight.
Exchange The Propshaft For Any Of These Problems

^ Any repair to any of the three c/v joint assemblies (front cross-groove, center double-cardan or rear single cardan).

^ Replacement of the rear flanged yoke.

Exchange Procedure

^ Call your Pontiac Technical Assistance Service (TAS) for handling the exchange request. (1-800-742-4636)

^ Provide them the necessary information. Fill out the Propshaft Reporting Form (attached) prior to calling.

^ TAS will arrange to ship an exchange unit to your dealership.

^ TAS will provide the dealership with an authorized "Case Request Number". This number must be written (with a permanent marker) on the unit (front shaft assembly) as well as the shipping container used to return the unit to C-P-C Parma.

^ Once the exchange unit is received, the complaint unit is to be returned to:

C-P-C Parma C-P-C Group - GMC Parma Plant 5400 Chevrolet Blvd. Parma, OH 44130
Attn: Propshaft Quality Assurance

^ The exchange unit will have an envelope attached to it.

This envelope will contain:

Return Shipping Label All Wheel Drive Propshaft Reporting Form

^ The concerned unit must be returned within 5-7 days after receipt of the exchange unit.

Preparation For Shipping

^ Complete the Propshaft Reporting Form and attach it to the return unit by wrapping it around and taping it to the rear shaft.
^ Write the TAS "Case Request Number" on the front shaft assembly and the outside of the shipping container.

^ Repack the concerned unit into the original shipping container.

^ Place the shipping label on the original shipping container.

^ The unit should be shipped C.O.D.

Warranty Claims Processing Procedure

Upon completion of the repair, a warranty claim is to be submitted to Pontiac for only the labor for the R and R. A special labor operation is provided for this situation and is the only labor operation to be used in the event an exchange unit is used. Use appropriate trouble code.
