Owner Notification Letter
October, 1986Dear Pontiac Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
General Motors has determined some 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 model vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims". As a requirement of this standard a label providing tire size, tire inflation pressure and loading data must be permanently affixed to passenger cars. This label was included on your vehicle, however, the tire size is incorrect.
The correct replacement tire size for your vehicle is 215/65R15.
To correct this noncompliance, a new Tire-Loading Information label should be installed on your vehicle. For your convenience, we have enclosed this label which you may install yourself. Just follow the instructions on the reverse side of this letter.
If you prefer, you may arrange a service date with your Pontiac dealer for this installation. This service will be performed at no charge to you.
If you decide not to install the new label yourself, your Pontiac dealer is best equipped to provide service to ensure your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. However, if you take your vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and they do not remedy this condition on that date or within a five day period of time, we recommend that you contact the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center by calling 1-800-762-2737.
After contacting your dealer and the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center, if you are still not satisfied that we have done our best to remedy this condition without charge and within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh St., S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call 1-800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C. residents use 426-0123).
If you install the new label or if you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the enclosed postage paid owner reply card and mail it to us. This will assist us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your safety and continued satisfaction with our products.
