A new spring cushioned pinion starter is now used on all 1986 3.0L and 3.8L transverse mounted engine applications. The machined pinion and cushion spring wave washer design provides smoother engagement and reduces flywheel damage, especially flywheel milling.
Service drive assembly, part number 10498407, replaced 1984511 on current and past model applications. The new drive assembly should also be used when rebuilding starters for listed applications.
