Mainshaft Disassemble






1. Separate shifter shaft and countergear assemblies from mainshaft, then remove clutch gear and blocker ring from mainshaft. The clutch gear contains 15 roller bearings.

2. Remove 3-4 synchronizer hub snap ring and remove synchronizer assembly, see accompanying figure. Use press if required.

3. Remove blocker ring and third speed gear, then using a press, remove ball bearing from mainshaft.

4. The remaining components can be removed as required.


INSPECTION

Transmission Case

1. Thoroughly clean -transmission case and inspect for cracks

2. Inspect front and rear mating faces for burrs. Smooth surfaces using a fine file, if needed.

3. Clean bearings and lubricate with oil, then inspect or roughness by turning with hand.


Roller Bearing & Shafts

Inspect countergear bearings carefully and replace if signs of wear are evident. Inspect countershaft and reverse idler shaft and replace if necessary.


Gears

1. Inspect gears for excessive wear, chips or cracks and replace as necessary.

2. Inspect reverse idler gear bushing. If bushing is worn or damaged, the reverse idler gear must be replaced, as it cannot be serviced.

3. Ensure both clutch sleeves slide freely on their hubs.

Front & Rear Bearings

1. Thoroughly clean bearings in clean solvent and dry with compressed air. Do not allow bearings to spin as this will damage race and balls.

2. Lubricate bearings with oil and check for roughness by turning by hand. Replace as necessary.
