Corrosion may cause binding of shift linkage on 1981-1983 1000 automatic transmissions..



Add lubricant (see illustration below) to the rear shifter rod pin area per the General Motors Maintenance Schedule..
This periodic lubrication will prevent binding of shift linkage.
