Assembly

ASSEMBLY

1. Install nylon inserts and selector arm plates in shift forks, see accompanying figure.

2. Coat edges of shift rail plug with sealer and install, then lubricate shift rail and bores and insert shift rail in cover. Install rail until end of rail is flush with inside edge of cover.

3. Position first-second shift fork (larger of two forks) in cover with offset facing rear of cover and push shift rail through fork.

4. Position selector arm and C-shaped interlock plate in cover and insert shift rail through arm with widest part of interlock plate facing away from cover and selector arm roll pin hole facing downward and toward rear of cover.

5. Position third-fourth shift fork in cover with offset facing rear of cover, being sure third-fourth shift fork selector arm plate is positioned under first-second shift fork selector arm plate.

6. Insert shift rail through third-fourth shift fork and into front shift rail bore in cover, then rotate shift rail until selector arm plate at forward end of rail faces away from, but is parallel to cover.

7. Align roll pin holes in selector arm and shift rail, then install roll pin, being sure it is flush with surface of selector arm to prevent contact between pin and selector arm plates during shifting.

8. Install O-ring in groove of shift rail oil seal, then install shift rail oil seal:

a. Install tool J-26628-2 or equivalent over threaded end of shift rail.

b. Lubricate lip of oil seal and slide over tool and onto shift rail.

c. Seat seal in transmission cover using tool J-26628-1 or equivalent
