REMOVAL - STABILIZER BAR

NOTE: Do not remove the stabilizer bar without removing the front fascia from the vehicle. If removal is attempted with the fascia installed on the vehicle, damage to the fascia can occur.

1. Remove the grille from the vehicle.

2. Remove the headlamp modules from the vehicle. Remove the headlamp modules using the following procedure. Remove the 2 screws mounting the headlamp module to the front structure. Remove the plastic cap-nut on the underside of the front structure mounting the front of the headlamp module to the front structure. Remove the headlamp module from the front structure and disconnect the headlamp module wiring harness from the vehicle wiring harness.
3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Remove the front fascia. The fascia is to be removed using the following procedure:

a. Remove the 2 screws mounting the fascia lower bracket to the front structure.

b. Unclip the fascia from the front valance panel. To unlatch the clips.
c. Lower the vehicle enough to access the 6 screws attaching the fascia to the front structure.

d. Remove the 6 screws attaching the fascia to the front structure.
e. Carefully remove the fascia from the vehicle.
5. Lower the vehicle until the front tires are supporting the entire weight of the vehicle.

6. Remove the nuts from both bolts attaching the stabilizer bar links to the rocker arms .

NOTE: When removing the stabilizer bar link to rocker arm bolts it may be necessary to raise or lower the vehicle slightly. This will take the weight off the bolts making them easier to remove if the bolts are binding in the rocker arms.

7. Remove the bolts attaching both stabilizer bar links to the rocker arms.
8. Raise the vehicle.

9. Remove the bolt and flag nut attaching the stabilizer bar bushing retainers to the frame . Remove the bushing retainers from the frame.
10. Remove the stabilizer bar and the links as an assembly from the vehicle.

11. Inspect the bar and components:
- Inspect for broken or distorted clamps, retainers, and bushings. If bushing replacement is required, the bushing can be removed by opening split in bushing and removing it from the stabilizer bar.
- Inspect stabilizer bar links for bending, seal leakage, ball joint free play or any other signs of damage.
12. If the bushings need to be removed, remove them by opening the preformed split and peeling the bushing from the stabilizer bar.
13. If the stabilizer bar links require removal from the stabilizer bar, refer to the following procedure.

CAUTION: The vise used to mount the stabilizer bar during removal of the links must be equipped with protective covers on the jaws. This is required to avoid damage to the paint on the stabilizer bar.

a. Clamp the stabilizer bar in a soft jawed vise as shown .
b. Using a wrench, remove the nut from the link stud. Keep the link stud from rotating using a Torx Plus 40 IP Bit placed in the end of the stud.
c. Remove the link from the stabilizer bar.
d. Repeat the above procedure to the other side link as necessary.

INSTALLATION - STABILIZER BAR
1. If the stabilizer bar links are not connected to the bar, install each of the links using the following procedure:
a. Clamp the stabilizer bar in a soft jawed vise.

b. Place the link on the bar so the link stud is pointing toward the outside (or on the same side of the stabilizer bar as the mounting bushing to the frame).
c. Install the nut on the attaching link stud.
d. Hold the link stud using a Torx Plus 40 IP Bit placed in the end of the stud to keep it from rotating during nut tightening.
e. Tighten the stabilizer bar link nut to a torque of 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) with the aid of a crowfoot wrench.
f. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vise.

2. Install the frame mounting bushings on the stabilizer bar. First, thoroughly clean the stabilizer bar in the area of bushing contact. Install the bushings on the bar by opening the preformed split and wrapping the bushing around the bar, positioning it against the retainer ring on stabilizer bar.
3. Install the stabilizer bar and links as an assembly back on the frame of the vehicle.

NOTE: When attaching the stabilizer bar to the frame, the split in the bushings must be facing upward toward the frame of the vehicle.

4. Install the bushing retainers, bolts and flag nuts.

NOTE: Before tightening the bushing retainer bolts, position the stabilizer bar so the attaching links are close to their mounting bolt holes in the rocker arms. The stabilizer bar is extremely hard to move after the bushing retainers are tightened.

5. Tighten the bushing retainer bolts to a torque of 30 Nm (265 inch lbs.).
6. Install the front fascia on the vehicle.

7. Install and securely tighten the 2 screws attaching the fascia lower mounting bracket to the front structure.
8. Lower the vehicle until the front tires are supporting the weight of the vehicle.

NOTE: When installing the stabilizer bar link to rocker arm bolts it may be necessary to raise or lower the vehicle slightly. This will help align the bolts with the holes in the rocker arms making it easier to install the bolts in the rocker arms.

9. Install the stabilizer bar link bolts in the rocker arms.

10. Install the nuts on the stabilizer bar link bolts. Tighten the stabilizer bar link bolts using a flex socket and extension to a torque of 60 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).

11. Install and securely tighten the 6 screws attaching the fascia to the front structure.

12. Install and securely tighten the 4 screws mounting the headlamp module to the front structure.
13. Install and securely tighten the 2 plastic capnut on the underside of the front structure mounting the front of the headlamp module to the front structure.

14. Install the grille. Install and securely tighten the 4 screws mounting the grille to the front structure.
