Lower Control Arm
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - LOWER CONTROLARM (FRONT)
Inspect the lower control arm for the following:
- Inspect the arm for signs of damage from contact with the ground or road debris. If a lower control arm shows any sign of contact, inspect the lower control arm for bending or any other type of distortion, including cracking.
- Inspect both control arm isolator bushings for severe deterioration.
- Inspect the ball joint per the inspection procedure. Refer to Ball Joint, Testing and Inspection.
Testing and Inspection
- Inspect the ball joint grease seal for cuts and splits.
- Inspect the push rod bushing for deterioration.
If any part of the control arm fails inspection (except for the push rod isolator bushing), the complete lower control arm will require replacement. The lower control arm, it's isolator bushings, ball joint and ball joint grease seal are all serviced as one assembly. Only the push rod isolator bushing can be serviced separately.
