Installation
INSTALLATION - UPPER CONTROL ARM1. Install the upper control arm into the frame rail brackets.
NOTE: When the upper control arm cam bolts are installed, tighten them only to a torque of 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) at this time. The cam bolts must not be fully tightened until the full weight of the vehicle is supported by the suspension.
2. Install the cam bolts and the nut/washer assemblies. When cam bolts are installed, the cam must be positioned inboard facing the rocker arm/ push rod. Also, the lobe on both cam bolts should be pointing upward when installed in the slot of the frame bracket.
3. Install the stud of the upper ball joint in the steering knuckle.
CAUTION: To ensure the stud of the ball joint is pulled as far as possible into the steering knuckle, the original style nut and washer must be installed.
4. Install the nut and washer on the stud of the upper ball joint. Tighten the upper ball joint to steering knuckle nut to a torque of 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
6. Tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the bolt and nut mounting the push rod to the lower control arm. Bolt must be installed so the nut is toward the front of the vehicle. Do not tighten them at this time. The full weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension when this bolt is tightened.
8. Install the stabilizer bar link and mounting bolt on the rocker arm. Install the nut on the mounting bolt. Do not tighten them at this time
9. Install the shock assembly in the frame crossmember.
CAUTION: When installing shock absorber assembly into rocker arm, care must be used so the upper bushing on the shock absorber and the rocker arm is not damaged.
10. Install shock absorber in rocker arm. Bushing can be installed the easiest by first carefully starting the front and back edge of the bushing into the rocker arm and then lightly tapping it into the rocker arm using a soft faced hammer.
11. Install the shock absorber to rocker arm mounting bolt. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
12. Tighten the stabilizer bar link to rocker arm mounting bolt to a torque of 60 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
13. Raise the vehicle.
14. Install the bolt and flag nut mounting the shock absorber assembly to the frame crossmember. Do not tighten them at this time. The full weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension when this bolt is tightened.
15. Install the wiring harness routing clip on the frame crossmember.
16. Fasten the clips attaching the front fascia to the front valance panel.
17. Install the grille. Install and securely tighten the 4 screws mounting the grille to the front structure .
NOTE: When jouncing the vehicle, the vehicle must be released at the bottom of the jounce cycle. This will ensure the vehicle's suspension will raise the vehicle to the correct curb height at the top of the jounce cycle.
18. Place the vehicle on an alignment rack so the full weight of the vehicle is supported by the suspension. Correctly jounce the vehicle to obtain the correct curb height.
19. Tighten the mounting bolt for the push rod to lower control arm bushing attachment to a torque of 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
20. Tighten both shock absorber lower mounting bolts to a torque of 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: When removal and installation of the upper control arm has been performed on this vehicle, the vehicle must have a full alignment done afterward.
21. Perform a full four-wheel alignment on the vehicle.
NOTE: When tightening the upper control arm cam bolts using Adapter, Special Tool 8106, the mechanical advantage of a torque wrench is increased by a factor of 1.5. For this reason the actual torque wrench reading or setting will be lower then the torque specification Example: If the torque specified is 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) the torque wrench reading or setting should be 72 Nm (53 ft. lbs.).
22. After the caster and camber has been set to the preferred specification with the vehicle at the correct curb height, tighten the upper control arm cam bolt nuts to a torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) or to 72 Nm (53 ft. lbs.) when using the Torque Wrench Adapter, Special Tool 8106.
