Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove dipstick and tube.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist and drain engine oil..
4. Remove oil pan (Fig. 108).
5. Remove oil pan gasket.
6. Clean oil pan and all gasket surfaces.
CLEANING
1. Clean oil pan in solvent and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Clean all gasket material from mounting surfaces of pan and block.
2. Inspect oil drain plug and plug hole for stripped or damaged threads and repair as necessary. Inspect molded rubber seal on drain plug for damage. Replace if necessary. Tighten to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
3. Inspect oil pan mounting flange for bends or distortion. Straighten flange if necessary.
4. Clean oil screen and pipe in clean solvent. Inspect condition of screen.
WINDAGE TRAY/OIL PAN GASKET
The windage tray and oil pan gaskets are integral. The silicone rubber gaskets are bonded to both sides of the windage tray. This assembly is reusable provided it is not damaged upon removal.
CAUTION: Sealant must be carefully removed if gasket is to be used again.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply a 1/8 inch bead of Mopar Engine RTV GEN II sealer at the parting line of the oil pump housing and the rear seal retainer (Fig. 109).
2. Install oil pan gasket to the engine block.
3. Install pan and attaching fasteners (Fig. 108). Tighten M6 nuts and bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Tighten M8 bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.).
4. Lower vehicle and install dipstick and tube.
5. Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
6. Connect negative cable to battery.
