Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
The intake manifold plenum must be removed to service the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to Intake Manifold Plenum in Multi-Port Fuel Injection-Service Procedures.

WARNING: RELEASE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE BEFORE REMOVING THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. REFER TO THE FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE.

1. Release fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure.
Service and Repair

2. Tag the injector connectors with their cylinder number.
3. Remove electrical connector from injectors.

Fuel Pressure Regulator:




4. Remove the vacuum tube from the fuel pressure regulator.
5. Remove fuel rail mounting bolts.

Fuel Injector Clamp:




6. Remove injector clamp screw.

Injector Clamp Removal/Installation:




7. Slide the injector clamp toward the rear of the engine, then lift the clamp off of the rail.
8. Install fuel rail mounting bolts finger tight.

Fuel Pressure Regulator Removal:




9. Using a thin flat screwdriver, pry the fuel pressure regulator out of the fuel rail.
10. Ensure the upper O-ring, upper spacer, lower 0-ring, and lower spacer were removed with the regulator. If not, remove them from the well in fuel rail.

INSTALLATION
1. Lightly lubricate the O-rings with a couple drops of clean engine oil.
2. Install fuel pressure regulator flush with fuel rail.
3. Remove fuel rail mounting bolts.
4. Install fuel injector clamps.
5. Tighten fuel rail mounting bolts to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque.
6. Install fuel injector clamp screw.
7. Attach electrical connectors to fuel injectors.
8. Install intake manifold plenum and new gasket. Refer to Intake Manifold Plenum in the Multi-Port Fuel Injection Service Procedure.
