Throttle Cable/Linkage: Adjustments

NOTE:
a. If there is excessive accelerator cable free play, the vehicle speed drop when climbing a slope will be large.
b. If there is no free play in the accelerator cable, idling speed will be increased.

1. Turn OFF the A/C, lights and accessories.
2. Run the engine until it has reached operating temperature and the idle has stabilized.
3. Verify the Curb Idle Speed is at 750+/-100 RPM.

4. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
5. Confirm that there are no sharp bends in the accelerator cable.
6. Check the inner cable for proper slack.
M/T, 3-A/T .04-.08 in. (1-2 mm)
4-A/T .12-.20 in. (3-5 mm)

7. If there is too much slack or no slack:
a. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 15 seconds.

Accelerator Cable Adjustment:






b. Loosen the adjusting bolts on the air intake plenum, set the inner cable free play to the standard value, secure the outer cable, then torque the adjusting bolts to 3-4 lb. ft. (4-6 N-m).

Throttle Lever And Idle Position Switch:






8. After adjusting, confirm that the throttle lever stopper touches the Idle Position Switch.
