1. Remove lockpin from transaxle selector shaft housing.
2. Reverse lockpin so long end is down, and insert lockpin into same threaded hole while pushing selector shaft in 1-2 neutral position.
3. Remove gearshift knob, retaining nut and pull-up ring.
4. On all models except Daytona and Laser, remove console attaching screws and console.
5. On Daytona and Laser models, remove console as follows:
a. Remove front seat assemblies.
b. Remove two forward console bezel attaching screws and bezel.
c. Remove carpet retaining clips from console.
d. Remove console attaching bolts and screws.
e. Disconnect electrical connectors from console, then remove console from vehicle.

6. On LeBaron GTS, Lancer, Aries, Reliant, Shadow and Sundance models, proceed as follows:
a. Fabricate two cable adjusting pins as shown.
b. Adjust selector cable and torque adjusting screw to specification7. The selector cable adjusting screw must be properly torqued.
c. Adjust crossover cable and torque adjusting screw to specification. The crossover cable adjusting screw must be properly torqued.

7. On Daytona & LeBaron Coupe/Convertible, proceed as follows:
a. Install adjusting screw tool and tighten to 20 inch lbs. Adjusting screw tool, with tethered spacer block, is taped to the shifter support bracket.
b. Adjust selector cable and torque adjusting screw to specification. The selector cable adjusting screw must be properly torqued.
c. Adjust crossover cable and torque adjusting screw to specification. The crossover cable adjusting screw must be properly torqued.
9. On all models, remove lockpin from selector shaft housing and reinstall lockpin so long end is up in selector shaft housing.
10. Check for proper operation and reinstall console, pull-up ring, retaining nut and gearshift knob.
