Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
Battery ground cable must be disconnected and isolated before performing this procedure. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On models equipped with airbag restraint systems, remove airbag module, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair. Remove clockspring set screw from steering wheel, then place it in clockspring to ensure clockspring positioning.
3. On models less airbag restraint systems, remove horn pad from steering wheel, then disconnect wiring connectors from horn.
4. On all models, remove steering wheel retaining nut, then steering wheel using suitable puller. Do not bump or hammer on steering shaft to remove wheel as damage to shaft may result.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install steering wheel with master serration in hub aligned with missing spline on end of steering shaft.
b. Torque retaining nut to 45 ft. lbs.
