Ball Joint: Service and Repair
With load removed from lower ball joint, check starting torque with inch lb. wrench. If starting torque is not 21.7-86.8 inch lbs., replace lower control arm and ball joint as an assembly.Fig. 11 Coil Spring Rear Suspension:
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Disconnect parking brake cable from lower control arm, then remove the stabilizer bar.
3. Remove lower control arm to axle housing attaching bolts, then the lower arm to front support attaching bolts.
4. Remove lower control arm to crossmember attaching bolts, then the lower control arm from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Apply a coat of suitable grease to shaft cutout between lower control arm and axle housing. Install shaft with identification mark facing downward.
