SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Roller rocker arm related noises on 1.6L engines built prior to December, 1987 (Engine #FR1687), may be reduced by the addition of six waved washers at the locations shown in Figure 1. These additional waved washers should be inserted at the front side of the rocker arm as indicated.

This application can be applied to earlier built vehicles also.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This procedure involves the removal of the rocker shafts and the installation of the additional waved washers.

1. Remove components necessary to disassemble rocker shafts. See appropriate service manual.

2. Disassemble and clean rocker shafts and components.

3. Coat the rocker shafts with engine oil. Reassemble rocker shafts using the additional waved washers positioned as indicated in Figure 1.

4. Install all components on engine. See appropriate service manual.

5. Verify proper operation.
