Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel pipes and hoses by completing the following operations:
a. Remove the rear seat cushion and carpet. Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector.
b. Start and run the engine until it stalls, then turn the ignition switch to OFF.
c. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
d. Connect the fuel pump harness connector.
Injection Mixer And Components:
2. Remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
3. Remove the two mounting screws from the injector holder, and remove the holder.
4. Remove the injectors carefully by hand only, using a rocking motion if necessary, to release the injectors from the injection mixer body.
INSPECTION
1. Inspect the pulse damper diaphragm in the fuel injector holder, and replace if any wear or defect is evident.
2. Inspect the injector holder filters for dirt or wear, and clean or replace as necessary.
3. Inspect the injector nozzles for deposits, or wear, and replace as necessary.
INSTALLATION
1. Fit a new O-ring and collar to each injector.
2. Set the injectors into the mixer body at the correct position, and push down firmly with a finger until each injector is seated in position.
3. Install the injector holder to the top of the mixer body with the two mounting screws, and torque the mounting screws to 4-6 Nm (2.9-4.3 lb-ft).
4. Install the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose, START the engine and inspect for leaks with the system pressurized.
