Service Procedure and Claim Information

Service Procedure

Replace the trailing arm pivot bolts on both sides of the rear suspension as follows:

1. With the vehicle on a hoist, support the rear suspension trailing arm with a jack stand.

2. Remove the trailing arm-to-front hanger pivot bolt nut.

3. Drive the bolt out of the pivot bushing using a brass drift and hammer.

Note: In a few instances, the pivot bolt may be seized in the bushing sleeve and cannot be removed by hammering. If so, remove the bolt as follows:

^ Remove the front hanger-to-body attaching bolts (both sides) to lower the hanger and trailing arm assembly for working access.

^ Use Special Tools C-4212-L (Press -- Trailing Arm Bushing Remover and Installer) and 6122-3 (Receiver Support Bridge) to press the pivot bolts (both sides) out of the bushings.

^ Reinstall the front hangers to the body, tightening the attachment bolts to 80 ft.lbs. (108 N-m) torque.

4. Loose assemble the trailing arm to the hanger bracket with a supplied pivot bolt and nut.

5. Lower the vehicle and, with the suspension supporting the vehicle, tighten both pivot bolts to 65 ft.lbs. (88 N-m) torque.
