SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Premature wear through of the A/C suction hose on subject model vehicles may be the result of inadequate clearance between the hose and the right engine mount.
DIAGNOSIS
1. Raise hood and carefully run your fingers between the suction line and the right side engine mount.
CAUTION:
THE ENGINE MOUNT MAY HAVE SOME EXTREMELY SHARP EDGES.
Adequate clearance for your fingers should exist. If clearance is inadequate and hose abrasion (rub through) exists, replace hose assembly with PN 3849636.
2. If there is no abrasion, but marginal clearance exists, follow the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure outlines the installation of a protective sleeve over the suction line.
1. Cut a 4" length of heater hose and slit lengthwise.
Fig 1 - A/C Suction Hose Assembly:
2. Install this hose over the suction line and foam sleeve above the filter-drier (Figure 1). With the split in this "cradle" facing upward, install a tie strap at each end as shown to firmly hold the cradle in place.
3. If clearance to the engine mount is still inadequate, loosen the filter-drier in its bracket, and raise the filter-drier until adequate clearance to the engine mount exists. Retighten the bracket.
4. Gently close the hood of the vehicle and check to see that the "raised" A/C plumbing has clearance to the hood.
