This service bulletin is published to inform you of the correct service procedure for installing the selector spacer positively in place between clutch housing and 5th speed shift lug of 5-speed manual transaxle (KM 163). (Refer to the 1984 Colt Vista Service Manual #81-270-4011, page 21-42.)

Procedure for Installing Selector Spacer

1. Place shift lever in the neutral position.

2. Wipe off oil from the spacer and the spacer contacting portion of housing.

3. Apply grease to the spacer to be installed and affix it to the housing.

4. Make sure that clearance between 3rd and 4th speed shift lug and 5th speed shift lug is 0.1 to 0.5 mm (0.004 to 0.020"). If the clearance is not within this range, replace the spacer with a proper spacer. (Be sure to apply grease to the new spacer.)

CAUTION: AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE SPACER, DO NOT CHECK THE SHIFT LEVER, LUG, ETC. FOR OPERATION. THE OPERATION OF THE SHIFT LEVER CAN NOW BE CHECKED AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE CASE. MAKE SURE THAT THE SPACER IS PROPERLY INSTALLED (THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE SPACER IS PARALLEL WITH THE SURFACE OF THE CLUTCH HOUSING), AND INSTALL THE TRANSAXLE CASE AT THIS TIME.
