Removal and Installation

GENERATOR/POWER STEERING PUMP BELT

The Poly-V generator/power steering pump belt is provided with a dynamic tensioner (Fig. 50) to maintain proper belt tension.

REMOVAL

WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW DRIVE BELT TENSIONER TO SNAP BACK, AS DAMAGE TO TENSIONER AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT.

1. Remove air conditioning belt.
2. Apply a force in a clockwise direction to the tensioner pulley bolt (Fig. 50).
3. Remove belt.

INSTALLATION
1. Install belt over all pulleys, except for the tensioner pulley. Refer to (Fig. 50) for belt routing.
2. Apply a force in a clockwise direction to the tensioner pulley bolt (Fig. 50).
3. While holding tensioner, position belt over tensioner pulley.
4. Slowly release force on tensioner.
5. Verify belt is properly routed and engaged on all pulleys.
6. Install air conditioning belt.

1. Loosen the idler pulley lock nut (Fig. 51).
2. Turn the adjusting screw to lower the idler pulley (Fig. 51).
3. Remove A/C belt.

INSTALLATION
1. Install A/C belt over pulleys.
2. Apply a snug torque to the idler pulley lock nut.
3. Turn adjusting screw until proper belt tension is obtained. Refer to Belt Tension Chart for specifications.
4. Tighten idler pulley lock nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).

ADJUSTMENT
To adjust the air conditioning drive belt, first loosen the idler pulley lock nut (Fig. 51) and adjust belt tension by tightening adjusting screw. Refer to Belt Tension Chart for specification. Tighten pulley lock nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) after adjustment.
