REMOVE:
- Raise and support the front part of the vehicle.
- Raise the hood to its vertical position.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove:
- the alternator belt,
- the alternator.
- Support the engine using the lifting hook at (a) or place a floor jack under the engine.
- Remove:
- upper engine mount (1)
- two bolts (2).
- Tilt the power train unit as far as possible
- Unclamp and clear away harness (3) from relay box.
- Pull up on clip (4).
- Lift cover (5) upward.
- Remove the lower flywheel cover.
- Lock the flywheel with tool J 36358 (P.N. 91.86)
- Remove:
- the right mudshield,
- the crankshaft pulley by removing four bolts (6),
- the lower cover (7),
- the flywheel locking tool.
- Rotate the engine using the crankshaft pulley bolt to bring it to its pin locking position
- Lock the crankshaft at (b) using pin (-).0153 G
- Remove pin (-).0153 G.
- Lock in position in the following order using pins (-).0153 M.
- pinion (8) at (c),
- pinion (9) at (d)
- Loosen tensioner bolts (1) and (2).
- Turn the tensioners to loosen the belt.
- Remove the belt WITHOUT FOLDING IT.
REINSTALL
- Ensure that the engine is in pin locking position
- Lock the crankshaft with pin (-).0153 G.
- Install the belt in the following sequence observing the direction of engine rotation (arrows)
- pinions (3) and (4),
- tensioner (5),
- pinion (6),
- water pump,
- tensioner (7).
- Lift and tilt the power train as far as possible
- Place the belt tensioning tool on the section (a) of the belt and lock it in place.
- Using tool (-).0153 P, rotate tensioner (5) one full turn.
- Rotate the tensioner (5) counterclockwise until 15 SEEM units are displayed
- Tighten bolt (1) without changing the tensioner's position, to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Rotate the tension (7) counterclockwise until 25 SEEM units are displayed
- Tighten bolt (2) without changing the tensioner's position, to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Remove the three locking pins.
- Rotate the crankshaft two turns in the direction of engine rotation
- Lock the crankshaft using pin (-).0153 G
IMPORTANT: Both camshaft should be able to be locked without effort; otherwise repeat the procedure.
- Place the belt tension tool on the belt.
- The meter should read a tension between 40 and 50 SEEM units
- Should the recorded value be outside the tolerance, repeat the belt tensioning procedure
- Remove the locking pin.
- Reinstall
- the lower cover (3)
- the crankshaft pulley after locking the flywheel.
- Tighten the four bolts (4) to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Reinstall
- the timing cover (5)
- the engine mount (6) : tighten nuts (7) to 45 Nm (33 ft lb)
- the alternator and its belt.
- Clamp the relay box harness (8).
- Install the mudshield
CHECK
This procedure is only for checking the belt tension value prior to performing any repairs to the valve train
After removing the timing cover
- Lock the crankshaft with pin (-).0153 G
- Place the belt tension tool on the section (a) of the belt.
The tension must range between 40 and 50 SEEM units
IMPORTANT: Both camshaft should be able to be locked without effort; otherwise repeat the procedure.
