Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Testing and Inspection

1. Check power supply as follows:
a. Connect voltmeter between pin 2 of connector and ground, Fig. 11.
b. Disconnect fuel injector connectors.
c. Engage starter.
d. Correct voltage value is above 9 volts.
2. Check ground as follows:
a. Connect ohmmeter between pin 3 and ground.
b. Correct resistance value is less than 1 ohm.
3. Check visually as follows:
a. Disconnect input and output hoses to auxiliary air device.
b. At a temperature of 68°F, slot in diaphragm must be visible.
4. Check resistance as follows:
a. Connect ohmmeter between air device terminals.
b. Correct resistance at 68°F is 35-45 ohms.
5. Check operation as follows:
a. Feed auxiliary air device directly with 12 volts using component harness tool No. 0141-BH or equivalent.
b. After five minutes, diaphragm should completely block off the air passage.
