Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery and remove hood.
2. Drain coolant from radiator and engine, then remove power steering pump from engine compartment without disconnecting power steering lines.
3. Loosen A/C compressor mounting bolts and move clear of working area without disconnecting A/C lines.
4. Disconnect all wires and electrical connectors between engine and body.
5. Using lifting hoist tool No. 8-0102 X, swing bar No. 8-0102 D and hooks No. 8-0102 G or equivalents, secure and support engine with hoist.
6. Remove cruise control servo and disconnect auxiliary air device connector.
7. Disconnect front header pipe clamp and move exhaust system clear of area.

8. Remove diagnostic plug TDC sensor (1) on the reinforcement bracket. Fig. 2.
9. Remove reinforcement bracket mounting bolts. Do not remove the reinforcement bracket at this time.
10. Remove bellhousing upper mounting bolts. Do not remove two lower bellhousing bolts at this time.
11. Remove RH engine mount bolts to engine crossmember.
12. Remove LH engine mount bolts and shield.
13. Lift engine slightly, until front header pipe makes contact with floor board. Support transmission in this position with a suitable jack or stand.
14. Remove two remaining mounting bolts on reinforcement bracket.
15. Remove reinforcement bracket and two remaining bellhousing bolts.
16. Remove engine from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten all components to specifications.
b. Fill and bleed cooling system.
