Replacement of Front Door Wiring Harness

III. Replacement of Front Door Wiring Harness

- Unplug all of the electrical connections within the door. Remove the wiring from the clips securing it to the door, taking note of the routing, and remove the harness from the door by disengaging the accordion boot between the door and the "A" pillar.

- Remove both front door sill moldings. To do this, first remove the single phillips-head screw from the kickpanel area, then unclip the molding from the door area and lift it out.

NOTE: There is a plastic wiring harness protector on the left side under the dashboard that attaches to the door sill molding; remember to reinstall this piece during reassembly.

- Locate the bundle of wiring harness connectors at the left and right kickpanel areas under the dash (left side - next to hood release lever, right side - next to blower motor assembly). These bundles are held in place by wide rubber straps; unclip the straps to gain access to the connectors.

- Locate the door harness connectors as follows:

Left Side Connector: HC7A (white) HC6 (brown)
No. of Pins: 10 9
Wire Nos: 211 M
211J 235A
201 233A
202 236A
237 203 204 66

Right Side Connector: HC7 (white) HC6A (brown)
No. of Pins: 10 9
Wire Nos: 212 201
212J 202
235 203
233 204
236 237
66D M
- Unplug these connectors and remove the door harness from the vehicle by pulling it from the door side of the "A" post. In order to facilitate removal of the old harness and installation of the new one, cut the interior connectors off of the old harness and tape a length of strong string or mechanics wire to it. Then when the old harness is pulled from the vehicle, it will leave the string or wire routed through the "A" post where it can be attached to the new harness and pulled back into the vehicle with the new harness. Repeat this procedure for the other side.

- Route the new wiring harnesses through their respective "A" posts using the method described above. The left side harness (P/N 6537.68) can be identified by the number 9602011080 on the tag attached to it; the right side harness (P/N 6537.69) carries number 9602010980 on its tag. Do not plug the connectors together at this time.

- Install the other end of the harness through the door. Be sure to secure it in all of the original clips to prevent damage to the harness as the window moves up and down. Locate the window switch connector(s), pull them through the access hole in the door panel, and engage the rubber grommet. Make all the electrical connections inside the door at this time.

- Install the door glass and weatherstripping in reverse order of disassembly.
