90peugeot03

BULLETIN NO. 374

DATE: March, 1990
SUBJECT: NOISE ON AM BAND OF RADIO WHEN BRAKING

MODELS: 1989 AND 1990 MODEL YEAR 405 VEHICLES

COMPLAINT:

Static on AM band, especially in fringe areas, when braking. Noise diminishes as the vehicle slows down, clearing up completely as it comes to a full stop.

CAUSE:

An interference signal is generated between the front brake pads and rotors during braking.

CORRECTION:

Factory: Ground wires will be installed in production on 1991MY vehicles.

Field Fix: Install a ground wire on each front strut between the steering knuckle and the upper strut to body mounting studs.

PARTS REQUIRED:

4 8 mm eyelet terminals, P/N 6540.26

4 8 mm star washers, P/N 6958.60

2 Electrical wires, 12-14 gauge, cut to 32 inch lengths

4" 0.25" heat shrinkable tubing

PROCEDURE:

TO PREPARE THE GROUND WIRES:

- Strip approximately 1/8" of insulation from each wire end
- Cut the heat shrinkable tubing into 4 one-inch lengths; slide two pieces over each wire
- To one end of each wire crimp the 8 mm eyelet
- Crimp the 8 mm eyelet to the other end of each wire
- Slide the heat shrinkable tubing over each terminal; crimp and shrink into place with a heat gun

TO INSTALL GROUND WIRES ON VEHICLE:

- Raise vehicle on lift
- Using a 13 mm socket, remove the bolt (1) that holds the brake hose support bracket to the spindle
- Slide the ground wire eyelet onto the bolt first, then the brake line support bracket, followed by a new star washer, P/N 6958.60
- Reinstall the bolts and tighten
Route the ground wire along the brake caliper hose and secure in place with a nylon wire tie; allow sufficient slack for the wires to move as the wheels turn from side to side Push the wire ends through the brake line access holes in the inner fender to the engine compartment Fully lower the vehicle Route the ground wires along the brake lines to the shock towers

Remove the 13 mm nut (2) closest to the engine compartment side of the shock tower
Install in the following order:

Left Side: Right Side:

1. Star washer (P/N 6958.60) 1. Star washer (P/N 6958.60)
