SUBJECT: RECALL CAMPAIGN 89V-158 - PASSIVE SEAT BELT SYSTEM
MODELS: ALL 1989 MODEL YEAR 405 "S" SEDANS ALL 1990 MODEL YEAR 405 SPORTSWAGONS
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Automobiles Peugeot has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 1989 Model Year Peugeot 405 "S" Sedans and 1990 Model Year 405 Sportswagons. This defect may not exist in each such vehicle.
The passive seat belt system may not operate correctly due to electrical interference between the passive belt motor and the electronic control unit or due to a malfunction of the door microswitch.
DESCRIPTION OF REPAIR:
1989 405 "S" Sedan
Use Modification Kit P/N 0089.01 to perform the following operations:
- replace the front door latches and door latch microswitches (see pages 2-4)
- install transient voltage suppressor on each passive restraint motor (see pages 5 and 6)
- for smoother and quieter operation of the shuttle, install spacers on seat belt track concealer (see page 7)
1990 405 Sportswagon
Use Modification Kit P/N 0089.02 to perform the following operation:
- replace both door latch microswitches
In addition to the above operations, perform the testing procedure (see page 8) on all vehicles.
OWNER NOTIFICATION:
Retail customers will be notified to bring their vehicles into authorized Peugeot dealers for repair on or after December 12, 1989.
