Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Refer to Fig. 1 during replacement procedures.

Removal

1. Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel, lockpin, cover and halfshaft hub nut (9), using removal tool No. 0606-AY or equivalent.
2. Install retaining cables No. 0903-AF or equivalent, Fig. 2, with wheels turned to right. Use two 6mm bolts to keep lower end of cables from slipping out of bottom slot.
3. Disconnect caliper and suspend from frame with wire. Remove brake rotor bolts, nuts and wheel sensor.
4. Remove ball joints (4), Fig. 1, then the steering knuckle clamp tightening nut.
5. Insert removal tool No. 0903-AE or equivalent, and turn 1/4 turn, Fig. 3.
6. Lower steering knuckle and separate from suspension element, then remove steering knuckle.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install wheel sensors and adjust.
b. The shock absorber body must seat. If it does not, loosen nut and shock assembly will position itself.
c. Remove retaining cables and check torque on nuts.
