Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Description and Operation

PCV Hose Routing:

The purpose of the positive crankcase ventilation system to prevent crankcase vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. A hose links the vapor recovery cap to a calibrated orifice in the intake system. An additional vacuum line connected to the intake manifold increases the efficiency with which vapors are extracted from the engine. The crankcase is subjected to constant vacuum, allowing blow-by gases to be drawn into the engine and burned. The vapor recovery cap mounted on the valve cover prevents lubricating oil from being drawn into the system.
