Timing Gear & Chain Installation
1. Install ``rislan'' filter, chain tensioners, blades, and pads. Tighten chain tensioner, blade bolts (coat threads with Loctite or equivalent) and pad bolts to specifications.
Fig. 55 Left Camshaft Pinion & Chain Installation:
2. Install key and crankshaft drive pinion, then rotate crankshaft clockwise to bring key in line with left cylinder bank. Install left camshaft pinion and chain (double marking (a) on timing gear pinion), Fig. 55.
Fig. 56 Right Camshaft Pinion & Chain Installation:
3. Rotate crankshaft to bring mark (b) in line with oil pump assembly hole, Fig. 56. Install right camshaft pinion and chain (double marking (c) on timing gear pinion), then load the chain tensioners.
Fig. 57 Counterweight & Driving Pinion Installation:
4. Install counterweight (1) and its support. Install driving pinion (2) and its bolt, aligning mark (3) with counterweight bolt center line (4), Fig. 57.
5. Tighten front and rear bolts of counterweight driving pinions to specifications. Install sealing plate with gasket to the rear of right cylinder head.
6. Install oil pump, key, and spacer. Tighten oil pump bolts to specifications. Install oil pump chain and pinion. Coat bolts with Loctite or equivalent and tighten to specifications. Lock engine using crankshaft turning tool No. 0134-HZ or equivalent, when tightening bolts.
Fig. 58 Proper Counterweight Setting:
7. Check counterweights for proper setting, Fig. 58, as follows:
a. Place non-angled end of gauge tool No. 0-0167 or equivalent, on face (A) of front counterweight (1).
b. Place angled end of gauge tool No. 0-0167 or equivalent, under face (B) of rear counterweight (2).
c. Check distance W between counterweight faces (A) and (B) and valve cover gasket plane of the cylinder head. This distance must lie between gauge marks; if not, carry out counterweight setting procedure. A counterweight set incorrectly by one tooth will cause a .2-.4 inch variation in distance W depending upon point of measurement on counterweight.
8. Replace timing chain cover seals, using seal installation tool No. 0134-G or equivalent, to insert seal into position.
9. Install distributor body on timing chain cover, then install rotor support together with drive.
10. Install timing chain cover, then the camshaft bolt. Tighten bolts to specifications.
11. Install crankshaft pulley. Coat nut with Loctite or equivalent and tighten to specifications.
