Trunk Lid Valet Parking Feature - Overriding

SUBJECT: 405 POWER DOOR LOCKS - OVERRIDING THE TRUNK LID VALET PARKING FEATURE
THIS BULLETIN SUPERCEDES BULLETIN NO. 309
All 405 vehicles are equipped with a trunk lock which can only be opened by using the trunk and glove box key.
By giving the parking attendant the ignition key only, the security and privacy of personal belongings in the trunk are ensured (and the glove box also, if locked).
With the addition of a toggle switch, the customer will have the added convenience of the trunk lid unlocking with the central locking system (doors and the gas filler flap), without losing the valet parking feature.
PARTS REQUIRED:
(1) Double pole toggle switch - Radio Shack Catalog No. 275--666 (or equivalent)
(1) Female Terminal for Connector - P/N 6541.22
(2) Butt Connectors - supplied locally
TOP VIEW OF SHEETMETAL:
PROCEDURE:
- Remove trunk RH side and rear inner panels
- Drill a 12 mm diameter hole in the sheetmetal to the right of the trunk door locking motor, as shown in the drawing below:
- Install switch in the hole from above (with toggle below sheetmetal) and the indicated "ON" position to the left
- Cut wire # M201 half-way between trunk lock motor connector and where the single wire enters the harness
- Strip and crimp both ends of the cut wire # M201 in insulated butt connectors
- Add two lengths of 20 cm long wire to the other side of the butt connectors to reach the switch
- Strip and solder the wire coming from the trunk motor connector to pin # 2 on switch
- Strip and solder the wire coming from the ground tree to pin # 3 on switch
- Run a new 70 cm long wire from pin #1 on switch over to the fuel filler door locking motor
- Remove and cut wire # 201 from the fuel filler door connector terminal # 2
- Using a new female terminal, P/N 6541.22, crimp together wire #201 and the new wire from the switch
- Reinsert terminal into connector, and plug connector into the fuel filler door motor receptacle
- Secure added wiring to existing wiring harness with wire ties as required
TEST PROCEDURE:
- Use the key in either front door (or infra-red remote lock activator, PLIP, on "S" and "Mil6" models). Flip the valet override switch to the left
- In this position the valet parking feature is engaged (the lock operates as it did before the modification), and the trunk lid has to be opened with the special trunk (and glove box) key
- By flipping the valet override switch to the right, the trunk lid lock will unlock with all the other doors
