1. Install crankshaft bearing shells. Grooved halves with lubrication holes are installed on cylinder block side. Smooth or plain halves without lubrication holes are placed on the bearing support side.
2. Install upper halves of thrust washers in cylinder block (grooves on crankshaft side), then the crankshaft fitted with tool .0134 HZ.
3. Install front bearing cap, then the rear bearing cap fitted with the lower halves of the thrust washers (grooves on crankshaft side). Install spacers .0134J, Fig. 25, on the bearing caps. Torque nuts to 22 ft. lbs.

4. Check endplay using dial indicator mounted on rod .0118 EZ and support .0118 FZ, Fig. 26. Endplay reading should be .003-.011 inch. Adjust endplay by inserting thrust washers of varying thicknesses.
5. Install liner/piston assemblies, then the liner retaining straps .0132 AZ.

6. Install connecting rod caps and torque nuts to 35 ft. lbs. Install intermediate bearing caps and a new O-ring seal (1), Fig. 27, using the proper centering sleeve.
7. Remove spacers .0134 J.

8. Install lower crankcase and torque bolts at (a), Fig. 28, to 4 ft. lbs.
9. Install bearing nuts with preoiled washers, torquing them to 22 ft. lbs. Final tighten an additional 75° using angle torque gauge KM J36384. Torque bolts at crankcase periphery to 13 ft. lbs.

10. Install four intermediate bearing bolts at (b), Fig. 29, and torque to 20 ft. lbs. Install strainer with new O-ring and the baffle. Torque bolts to 10 ft. lbs.
11. Install oil sump fitted with new gasket and torque bolts to 10 ft. lbs. Install drain plug with new gasket and torque to 28 ft. lbs.
