(1)Replacement Procedure







On all vehicles affected, systematically replace all the ground tree retaining bolts. 7 on Sedans; 8 on Station Wagons.
1. Inside of right front headlight frame panel.
2. Inside of left front headlight frame panel.
3. Under cowl panel (on left side).
4. Right side of steering column support.
5. Left side of steering column support.
6. Right rear trunk side member.
7. Left rear trunk side member.
1. Inside of right front headlight frame panel.
2. Inside of left front headlight frame panel.
3. Under cowl panel (on left side).
4. Right side of steering column support.
5. Left side of steering column support.
6. Right rear tailgate pillar (in jack storage compartment).
7. Left rear tailgate pillar (in rear washer container compartment).
8. Tailgate behind trim panel (next to wiper motor).
- Replacement Of Bolts 1 And 2: (Sedans and Station Wagons)
^ Loosen 10 MM battery hold down bolt and slide battery backward as far as it will go.
A) ^ Remove and discard original ground tree retaining bolts. Install replacement bolts.
B) ^ Ensure presence of star washer between body and ground tree.
C) ^ Tighten bolts securely to ensure good ground.

^ Reposition battery and tighten hold down bolt.




- Replacement Of Bolt 3: (Sedans and Station Wagons)
^ Remove only the 3 screws for the air intake grille on cowl panel as shown below.
^ Lift left corner of the grille to gain access to ground bolt 3.
^ Repeat steps A, B, and C.
^ Reinstall air intake grille screws, and ensure that washer hose does not get pinched.



- Replacement Of Bolts 4 And 5 (Sedans and Station Wagons)
^ Remove lower steering column cover (8 screws) to gain access to ground bolts 4 and 5 on outside of left and right side steering column supports
^ Repeat steps A, B, and C.
^ Reinstall lower steering column cover, starting with the two screws shown on drawing below to ease installation and ensure proper alignment.

- Replacement Of Bolts 6 And 7 (Sedan only)
^ Remove left and right side trim panels in the trunk to gain access to bolts 6 and 7.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall side trim panels.

- Replacement Of Bolts 6 And 7 (Station Wagon only)
^ Flip open the jack storage compartment door (right side) and rear washer container compartment door (left side) to gain access to bolts 6 and 7.
^ Use a rubber band with hooks to hold doors open. (Made locally).
^ For bolt 6, on vehicles equipped with power antenna, remove lower bracket mounting bolt (8 MM).
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall antenna bolt.
^ Close storage compartment doors.

- Replacement Of Bolt 8 (Station Wagon only)
^ Remove tailgate trim panel to gain access to bolt 8.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall trim panel.
