Engine - XD3T Turbo Diesel Update: Overview

Subject: XD3T TURBO DIESEL ENGINE
As announced in Class 15 Service Bulletin No. 144, the 1985 505 Turbo diesel sedans are powered by an XD3T (152) Turbo diesel engine.
A - Specifications on the XD3T (152) engine as compared to the
XD2S (147) engine.
- Increase in the displacement from 2304 cc to 2498 cc by increasing the stroke from 83 mm to 90 mm.
- Boost pressure increased from 0.6 Bar to 0.8 Bar
- Improvement of the fill rate at high RPM with:
^ New intake cam lobes
^ Increased valve diameters
(Closed Circle) Intake 42.5 mm instead of 40.5 (Crossed Circle) Exhaust 35.5 mm instead of 33.5
^ Modification of the mixture passages in the cylinder head and the manifolds.
These modifications result in a horsepower gain from 80 to 95 and
a torque increase from 18.4 daN-m (133.4 ft.lbs.), to 20.4 daN-m
(147.9 ft.lbs.), at 2000 RPM.
The above also entail the fitting of the following equipment:
- Pistons with an inner oil gallery to insure intensive cooling of the piston head.
- Injection equipment adaptable to the electronic regulation EGR system for compliance with emission standards in effect.
